Cold front maintains unstable weather and brings new storms to the Center-South; see forecast for the weekend

The system should maintain conditions of heavy rain, isolated storms and intense winds, mainly in the South and Southeast regions. Some places are forecast to see up to 100 millimeters of rain per day and winds of up to 100 km/h.

A cold front, associated with the extratropical cyclone that formed last Friday (11) in the South, is expected to advance through Brazil and maintain unstable weather in part of the country throughout the weekend.

According to Climatempo, between this Saturday (12) and Sunday (13), the system should maintain conditions of heavy rain, isolated thunderstorms and intense winds, mainly in the South and Southeast regions.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a "danger" meteorological warning for three states due to the storms predicted for this Saturday:

northern Paraná

São Paulo

south of Mato Grosso do Sul

⚠️These locations are predicted to receive up to 100 millimeters of rain per day and winds of up to 100 km/h. There is also a risk of flooding and falling trees.

The interior of the country should remain under the influence of dry air, with a predominance of dry air and low air humidity. The rain should be concentrated in areas of the Amazon.

What is the weather like on the weekend across the country?

The weekend will be marked by rain and the risk of storms in areas of Central-South Brazil, mainly in Paraná, in parts of Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso do Sul.

In addition to keeping the weather unstable in these regions, the passage of the cold front should also drop temperatures in some of these areas.

In the rest of the country, the scenario is more divided. The Northeast coast will have temporary rain, while the interior remains hot and dry. In the North, heat and humidity favor rain showers in areas of the Amazon.

See below the more detailed scenario for each region:

South

On Saturday (12), the rain loses strength in Rio Grande do Sul, mainly in the center-south and west of the state. Isolated showers may still occur in the northeast and on the coast. In Santa Catarina, moderate to heavy rains are expected between the North Planalto, the central-east and the coast.

In Paraná, the day should be very unstable, especially in the center-north, east, coast and areas close to the border with São Paulo. There is a possibility of isolated thunderstorms and heavy rain in the north, northeast and northwest of the state.

The entry of cold air causes temperatures to drop, although the north of Paraná may still feel stuffy during part of the day. On the coast of Paraná and Santa Catarina, gusts can reach 70 km/h.

On Sunday (13), the weather becomes more stable in part of the South region, but the rain continues in Paraná. The showers could be moderate to strong, mainly in the northern half, with the possibility of thunderstorms in the far north.

Rain is also forecast in the center-west, northwest and coast of Santa Catarina and the coastal strip of Rio Grande do Sul. Temperatures drop, especially in the early hours of the morning, and winds remain moderate in areas close to the coast.

Southeast

On Saturday, the cold front maintains unstable weather between São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, south, Triângulo and east of Minas Gerais and south of Espírito Santo.

Moderate to heavy rain showers, thunderstorms and isolated thunderstorms are expected in a large part of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, the south and Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais and the south of Espírito Santo. The center-south of São Paulo and the extreme south of Minas Gerais may record heavy rain.

While temperatures decrease in the center-south and east of São Paulo, south of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, the heat continues in the other areas of Minas Gerais. In the north, northwest and west of Minas Gerais, relative humidity can be between 20% and 30%. On the coast of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, gusts can reach 70 km/h.

On Sunday, the rain persists mainly in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and southern Minas Gerais. The west and center-south of São Paulo, the south of Minas, Zona da Mata, the central and eastern regions of Minas Gerais, in addition to Rio de Janeiro and the south of Espírito Santo, may experience moderate to strong showers and isolated storms.

In part of the central region of Minas, the rain will be more isolated. In other areas of Minas Gerais and in Espírito Santo, the weather remains firm. Temperatures drop in the center-south of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Zona da Mata, Southern Minas and Espírito Santo.

Midwest

On Saturday, Mato Grosso do Sul will have heavy rain and the possibility of thunderstorms, mainly in the center-south and west of the state. High accumulations are expected in central, southern and southeastern areas.

In Mato Grosso, isolated showers may occur in the west, northwest and southwest, including the possibility of heavy rain. Goiás, Distrito Federal and other areas of Mato Grosso remain in firm weather.

The heat continues to predominate in the afternoon in much of the region, but temperatures decrease in the south and central-west of Mato Grosso do Sul and in areas of the southwest and west of Mato Grosso. In a large part of Goiás, in the Federal District and in the east of Mato Grosso, humidity can be between 20% and 30%.

On Sunday, Mato Grosso do Sul continues with conditions for heavy rain and thunderstorms. There is also a possibility of showers in the south of Goiás.

Mato Grosso, Goiás and the Federal District are under the influence of dry air, although heat and humidity may cause new areas of instability in the west, northwest and in isolated points in the central region of Mato Grosso.

Relative air humidity remains low during the afternoon in the center-north of Goiás, Federal District and east and north of Mato Grosso, with rates between 20% and 30%.

Northeast

On Saturday, the rain is mainly concentrated on the coastal strip. The circulation of humidity favors storms between Salvador and the coast that runs from Rio Grande do Norte to Alagoas, with weak to moderate intensity.

Inland, dry air keeps the weather firm, hot and with low humidity during the afternoon. In the center-west of Paraíba, rates can be between 12% and 20%.

On Sunday, the scenario changes little. The winds continue to favor temporary and isolated rain in parts of the eastern band. Inland, sun, heat and low levels of humidity predominate.

The situation is drier in the south of Bahia, center-west of Rio Grande do Norte and center-west of Paraíba, where humidity can vary between 12% and 20%. Temperatures remain high, and gusts of up to 70 km/h may occur in isolated spots.

North

On Saturday, the heat and high humidity favor rain showers in much of Amazonas, Acre, Rondônia and Roraima, mainly between the afternoon and evening.

Rainfall can be moderate to heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms, with the possibility of thunderstorms in the west of Rondônia and the extreme north of Amazonas. In other areas, including the eastern Amazonian belt, the weather remains firm and hot.

In Tocantins, relative air humidity varies between 20% and 30%, and can drop to between 12% and 20% in the south of the state.

On Sunday, the rain continues to be concentrated in areas of the Amazon. Amazonas, Rondônia and Acre are expected to record moderate to strong showers and isolated thunderstorms. There is also a possibility of rain in the west of Roraima, west of Pará and north of Amapá.

In the northwest of Pará and in inland areas, precipitation occurs more isolated. In other areas, the weather remains firm, with high temperatures and a feeling of stuffiness.

Humidity is lower in Tocantins and southern Pará, especially in the center-south of Tocantins, where rates can vary between 12% and 20%.
