The first hearing of the case in which 3 police officers were tried for the martyrdom of police officer Şeyda Yılmaz by Yunus Emre Geçti, who escaped from the police station after being caught for 'motorcycle theft' on September 22, 2024 in Ümraniye Ihlamurkuyu and has a record of 26 crimes, was held. The unarrested defendant police officer Abdullah A. and the party's lawyers attended the hearing held at the 13th Criminal Court of First Instance.
In his defense, the defendant Abdullah A. said, "On the day of the incident, I was working as a group chief at the Martyr İsmail Akkoyun police station. I was on duty for the evening hours. I heard a noise while I was in the sink. When I came out, police officer Ramazan said that the mother of the person who committed the action had brought food, he moved a little away to give her the food, and at this time the person ran away. I immediately told the other groups via Whatsapp that the person had escaped, that he could be dangerous and that support was needed. Meanwhile, the main monitor at the police station could see in which direction the suspect was running." We looked at him with police officer Adem. When the vehicle arrived, Adem said that police officer Kürşat was following the suspect and that he was shot. I did not know that our two officers were following the suspect until Adem said so. Normally, we do not allow people to meet with their families at the police station for any reason. I think Ramazan took the initiative. "We do not allow the suspects to see each other. This procedure is followed for all suspects. No one had escaped from the police station in this way before, but normally, if I had not been in the bathroom, I would not have allowed Ramazan to see the suspect with his family. I do not accept the accusation, I demand my acquittal."
Announcing its interim decision, the court postponed the hearing to Friday, November 27, to correct the missing issues.
An indictment was filed against 3 police officers regarding the martyrdom of Şeyda Yılmaz, demanding imprisonment from 6 months to 2 years for 'abuse of duty'. In the indictment, it was stated that police officer Abdullah A. was a commissioner at the police station and the other 2 people were police officers. In the indictment, it was noted that Yunus Emre Geçti, who was caught on suspicion of theft, was kept in the guard room at the police station, and upon the request of Geçti's mother and relatives, "We brought food, can we meet?", he took advantage of the absent-mindedness of the suspect police officer Ramazan A. and escaped. It was reported that Commissioner Abdullah A. assigned martyr police officers Şeyda Yılmaz and Kürşat Hakkı S. for the capture work, and police officer Şeyda Yılmaz lost her life in the chase and brawl that took place on Petrolyolu Street in Ihlamurkuyu District. In the indictment, it was stated that the suspect police officer Ramazan A. kept the detained Yunus Emre Geçti in the holding room, took him out of the room alone and without handcuffs to meet his family, and that Ramazan A. walked away while he was meeting with his family, and Geçti escaped at this time. It was emphasized that Commissioner Abdullah A. was in the chief's office at the time of the incident, that Geçti was waiting alone and that no precautions were taken, he watched the surroundings and did not take security measures. It was noted that police officer Kürşat Hakkı S., while trying to catch the escaping Yunus Emre Geçti, caused his duty weapon to be taken away, and the person who opened fire with this weapon caused the death of police officer Şeyda Yılmaz.
