Seoul court dismisses widow's lawsuit to terminate LG chairman's adoption

SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Yonhap) -- A court on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit filed by the widow of late LG Group Chairman Koo Bon-moo seeking to terminate the adoption of LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo.

The Seoul Family Court issued the ruling in the lawsuit launched by Kim Young-sik, the late LG chairman's wife and Koo Kwang-mo's adoptive mother, about two years ago. The court did not disclose the specific reasons for its ruling.

Kim initiated legal proceedings to terminate the adoption of the younger Koo in November 2024, while she was in the midst of a legal battle with the LG chairman over the inheritance of the late chairman.

Koo Kwang-mo was born as a son of Koo Bon-moo's younger brother and adopted by the late chairman in 2004 to maintain the group's long-held tradition of the eldest son taking management control.

Following the elder Koo's death in 2018, the younger Koo became the largest shareholder of LG Corp. by inheriting most of his father's shares in the group's holding company.

But Kim and her two daughters filed a lawsuit in February 2023 seeking to invalidate the inheritance that took place following Koo Bon-moo's death.
