Slovakia is working to meet EU mandates to stop Russian oil imports by the end of 2025. The country is currently seeking alternative energy sources and supply routes.
BRATISLAVA, October 9. /TASS/. Slovakia has secured gas supplies for the upcoming winter thanks to its active long-term contract with Gazprom, Reuters reported, citing Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Sakova.
"We have a long-term contract with Gazprom, short-term diversification contracts, and sufficient gas reserves in storage. Consumer needs for the winter season will be fully covered," Sakova was quoted as saying.
Slovak media previously reported that the country's gas storage facilities currently hold enough fuel to generate 16.8 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity. The target inventory level, capable of producing 17.5 TWh, is expected to be reached by mid-October.
Sakova also noted that Slovakia will continue to receive Russian crude oil until the end of 2027. Amid the European Union's mandate to halt such imports by the end of next year, Bratislava is seeking alternative sources and delivery routes, with negotiations currently underway with the United States.
"From 2028 onward, Slovakia will require viable alternatives to Russian oil and gas," the minister stated. "We are holding discussions on this matter at the White House. The United States is one of Slovakia's key partners in finding alternative energy sources and supply routes."
