The Social Democrats and the Moderates in Södertälje go to the election as individual parties despite cross-block cooperation

Although both are clear that they do not rule out a new collaboration to govern Södertälje after the election on September 13 - it is a fact that the Social Democrats and the Moderates are going to the elections as individual parties.

The cooperation across the block border was not a given, but came about after the turbulent time where different political constellations tried to come to power after the 2022 elections.

In the end, it was the Social Democrats, the Moderates and the Green Party who shook hands to govern the city, which, with a few exceptions, has been led by the Social Democrats for the past hundred years.

"He will miss me"

And even if the majority government sat for the entire term, they have not always agreed.

- But we haven't shouted at each other too often, says Alexander Rosenberg (M), municipal councillor, with a twinkle in his eye.

- He will miss me every day of the week if there will be such a terrible government as it was close to being after the last election, says Boel Godner (S), chairman of the municipal board.

Södertälje is not alone in a government led by the Social Democrats and the Moderates. Nearly 60 municipalities in the country are currently governed by the parties, either by themselves or with supporting parties.
