Officially announced the launch of the new Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), the first wave of which supports "Marvel Wolverine" and "Yotei Mountain War Ghost".

Sony said that QSSR originated from the Project Amethyst project in cooperation with AMD and can be regarded as another version of the extension of PSSR technology. The PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) originally used by the PS5 Pro will analyze the game screen pixel by pixel and then upscale it through AI to further enhance the details and screen stability. In order to solve the performance limitations, Sony has rebuilt QSSR for the standard version of PS5 this time. The core includes a more streamlined neural network architecture and manual performance adjustment. It hopes to bring the benefits of AI upscaling even with limited hardware resources.

However, Sony also emphasized that the PSSR on PS5 Pro is still the highest specification at present. QSSR is not positioned to completely replace PSSR, but to allow standard version PS5 players to enjoy some AI upscaling effects. The actual improvements focus mainly on picture details and stability, such as character outlines, environment textures, or image stability when moving the picture.

2 games are supported first

The first batch of games to support QSSR include "Marvel Wolverine" and "Yotei Mountain War Ghost". Both games have added QSSR through updates, allowing players to use it as an additional graphics option on the regular PS5.

Sony has confirmed that QSSR will be widely available to all PlayStation developers in the future, and more games are expected to be added in the future.
