Investigation into suspects who shared misleading information on social media

The investigation initiated against the owners of social media accounts who share false, inaccurate or misleading information and content aimed at influencing the prices and values ​​of capital market instruments or the decisions of investors continues. Within the scope of the investigation, 5 of the 6 suspects were detained and it was learned that 1 was in prison.

The suspects, who were referred to the courthouses in their cities after their procedures at the police station, were brought before the criminal judgeship of peace after their statements at the prosecutor's office.

The judgeship decided to impose a judicial control measure in the form of a travel ban on 5 suspects. No precautions were taken against the suspect in prison.

INVESTIGATION

In its statement, Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that it had previously been announced that an investigation had been launched by the Press Crimes Investigation Bureau against the owners of social media accounts who shared false, inaccurate or misleading information and content aimed at influencing the prices and values of capital market instruments or the decisions of investors upon applications.

It was stated in the statement that, within the scope of the investigation, detention orders were initially given for 6 suspects, and that efforts to identify the 11 social media account owners were continuing by the law enforcement unit.
