Tadej Pogacar underwent successful surgery on his left clavicle this Monday afternoon in Barcelona, ​​some 48 hours after the spectacular fall that forced him to abandon the Vuelta a España 2026. The world cycling star was practically assured of victory in the Spanish event. According to the UAE team, “the operation went well” and now he has to remain hospitalized “for a few days” before being able to begin his recovery after this serious illness.

"The intervention has gone without complications and Tadej will remain admitted to the hospital for a few days for post-operative follow-up. When he is ready, Tadej will travel home to begin his recovery and rehabilitation under the supervision of the team's medical team. We will closely monitor his evolution throughout the entire recovery process," said Adrian Rotunno, medical director of the UAE.

The operation took place at the Dexeus clinic and was carried out by Dr. Xavier Mir. Now all the focus is on Pogacar's return date. It is not ruled out that the Slovenian could return to compete in the cycling World Cup on September 27, although it seems complicated. There are more options for the Giro de Lombardia to run on October 10. However, taking into account Pogacar's exceptional physical conditions, no one dares to indicate exactly when his return may be despite the severity of his injuries.
