Take-Two turns to Microsoft and Discord for GTA VI leaks

Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft and Discord to judicially request users' data in connection with the dissemination of leaked gameplay footage of the yet-to-be-released Grand Theft Auto (GTA) VI.

Applying to the Southern District Court of New York, the video game publisher aims to identify users who may have been involved in the publication and distribution of GTA VI materials before the game's official release.

Take-Two asked Microsoft for information about accounts linked to the user nicknamed "Cyberleek."

According to the news of the gaming world-focused portal Kotaku, the company's requests include email addresses, IP addresses, phone numbers, associated accounts and data in the OneDrive cloud storage.

Microsoft must submit this information to the court by September 4.

The publishing company requested from Discord the data of users on some servers thought to be involved in the distribution of GTA VI materials.

The review list also included communities affiliated with the pseudonyms "Cyberleek", "CinematicRockstar" and "Surfer24k", as well as the editorial host of popular GTA V streamer Matthew Judge, known as "DarkViperAU".

Matthew Judge explained that he did not know why Take-Two wanted information about its own server.

Judge stated that no leak material was shared on his server and that Rockstar Games did not contact him directly.

A hacker group using the pseudonym Cyberleek began leaking material for the unreleased game in August.

Along with the leaks, pirates also published a manifesto containing demands for the game publisher.

In this text, Cyberleek demanded a public apology and a change in company policies.

In its manifesto, Cyberleek announced that it was fighting against anti-consumer practices of game publishers.

Claims and objections included digital pre-orders, additional packs that were already included in the main game but kept locked, and a request to mandate offline mode support for single-player titles after the servers were shut down.
