Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Council could not meet: 131 agenda items were postponed

Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Council convened after a two-month holiday period to decide on 131 agenda items of the city awaiting solution.

Metropolitan Mayor Dr. resigned from CHP and joined the New Party. The session held under the management of Candan Yüceer; Most of the CHP, AKP, MHP and independent council members did not attend. Due to lack of quorum, the meeting was postponed to a later date.

President Dr. made a statement after the session in which only the New Party group participated in full could not be opened. Candan Yüceer described the boycott decision as "political irresponsibility".

"YOU CANNOT SOLVE PROBLEMS BY LEAVING CHAIRS EMPTY"

Reminding that elected local administrators have a responsibility to the public, Yüceer emphasized that criticisms should be expressed under the roof of the parliament:

"If they don't like it, they can criticize it. If they find it wrong, they can oppose it. If they think it is incomplete, they can make suggestions. However, you cannot solve Tekirdağ's problems by running away from the parliament and leaving those seats you see empty. Tekirdağ's problems do not take a holiday; industry, agriculture, environment, infrastructure and transportation are waiting. While we need to gather a lot and spend a lot of time, the parliament is not run."

"131 ITEMS ARE WAITING ON THE AGENDA"

Yüceer stated that the agenda includes 131 topics that directly concern citizens, such as district municipalities' funding requests, zoning and environmental regulations, and stated that the council cannot be used for personal interests. Yüceer said, "Tekirdağ's problems cannot be sacrificed to political calculations. This assembly is not an area where anyone's personal fortune calculations will be made or political bargaining will be carried out; it is directly the assembly of the people of Tekirdağ."

ATTENTION-RATING MESSAGE ON CHP'S FOUNDATION ANNIVERSARY

Reminding that September 9 was the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the CHP, Yüceer also referred to the founding spirit of the Republican People's Party and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in a part of his speech.

Reminding that the Parliament was operated even during the most critical days of the War of Independence, Yüceer said that there are no war conditions today, but Tekirdağ has many problems waiting to be solved.

"Our ancestor should not worry. We will continue to uphold the spirit of establishment, walk in Ataturk's path, not deviate from the light of the Republic, and protect democracy, human rights and freedoms," he said.

THE ASSEMBLY WILL MEET AGAIN ON SEPTEMBER 11

Due to the lack of sufficient majority, it was decided that the next meeting of the Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Council will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 10:00.

HOW MANY PEOPLE JOINED THE NEW PARTY?

There were 42 members of the CHP in the 64-member Metropolitan Council. In the last case, 28 Assembly members joined the NEW Party along with President Yüceer.
