Tesla: The Minister of Transport announces the start of tests of the FSD system in France

The green light is given. The Minister of Transport, Philippe Tabarot, welcomed, Wednesday September 2, a “constructive exchange” with the boss of Tesla, Elon Musk, around the device called FSD Supervisé – for Full Self-Driving (Supervised) –, the autonomous car system.

“With the provision of two vehicles equipped with FSD by Tesla, we are now entering a new stage: that of road tests,” welcomed the minister on X.

Philippe Tabarot recalled that the French authorities have been working "for several months (...) on the technical adaptations which will allow France to support its approval". This approval will be “decided at European level in the coming weeks”, continued the minister.

At the end of July, the Minister of Transport expressed his concerns regarding the safety of these vehicles, whose system currently requires active monitoring by the driver and does not make the vehicle fully autonomous. “In France, we consider that this system brings a certain number of technological advances but that the rewards in terms of security are not yet sufficient for authorization as it stands,” declared Philippe Tabarot in a video published on the government platform Agora, dedicated to citizen participation.
