TNCAP third quarter ratings released: MG ZS received zero stars, MG Taiwan announced recall

MG Taiwan stated that this test adopts the new version of TNCAP system in 2026, which increases the star threshold in each scoring field compared with the old system, and strengthens test requirements for child protection and safety assistance. MG ZS achieved 2 stars, 5 stars, 3 stars and 0 stars respectively in the four major categories of adult protection, child protection, vulnerable road users and safety assistance. The overall rating is determined based on the lowest star rating in the four major areas, so the final rating is 0 stars.

MG Taiwan stated that the MG ZS currently sold in Taiwan has the highest specifications of the global car series. However, in the face of the new version of TNCAP standards, the test results are still not satisfactory. MG Taiwan will continue to put safety as an important core of product planning, follow the latest vehicle safety development trends, support and cooperate with the direction of domestic vehicle safety policies, continue to strengthen active safety technology and overall safety equipment planning, and provide a more complete and secure car experience.

In response to safety issues discovered during testing, MG Taiwan announced a voluntary recall of some vehicles. Among them, some MG ZS produced from March 2025 to September 2026 will have the front seat backs inspected and replaced free of charge due to dense stitching on the front seat back leather covers, which may affect the deployment of side airbags.

In addition, for some vehicles produced from August 2023 to September 2026, the rear seat cushion latch may not be properly positioned, and will be inspected and reinstalled free of charge. During the same period, if the negative pole head and terminal of the battery are dirty or have insufficient torque, which may affect the automatic unlocking of the door after a collision, they will also be inspected, cleaned and locked according to standard torque for free. MG Taiwan stated that relevant recall notices will be sent out one after another, and car owners can make an appointment to return to the factory according to the notice.
