General Secretary and President To Lam held talks with the President of Myanmar, expressing readiness to share experiences in developing the country and strengthening cooperation in all fields.
In talks with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing on the morning of September 5, General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the Myanmar government's efforts in implementing measures to promote stability, reconciliation, dialogue, economic development, ensuring security and safety and improving people's lives.
President Min Aung Hlaing emphasized that Myanmar values traditional friendship and wishes to strengthen cooperation and learn from Vietnam's development experiences, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The two sides agreed to continue strengthening political trust through increased delegation exchanges and high-level contacts at all levels, continuing to promote the effectiveness of defense and security cooperation to become a pillar in the two countries' relationship, and reaffirming their commitment to not allow any individual or organization to use one country's territory against the other.
Regarding economic, trade and investment cooperation, President Min Aung Hlaing affirmed that Myanmar will pay attention, remove difficulties, and create a favorable environment for Vietnamese businesses to invest and do long-term and stable business in Myanmar.
He expressed his wish for Vietnamese businesses to actively participate and expand cooperation with Myanmar businesses in areas where Vietnam has strengths and Myanmar has needs.
Mr. Min Aung Hlaing highly appreciated the cooperation the two sides have implemented in the fields of education - training, culture and people-to-people exchanges; suggested that the two sides promote the depth of cultural connection and promote exchanges between people of all walks of life.
General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that Vietnam is ready to share experiences in developing the country, ensuring economic security, promoting sustainable growth, macroeconomic stability, policy making, socio-economic management, taking people as the center, promoting internal resources associated with proactive international integration, and effectively taking advantage of external resources to serve national development.
The two leaders agreed to increase exchanges in regional and international cooperation mechanisms, including ASEAN and Mekong sub-regional mechanisms. President Min Aung Hlaing thanked Vietnam for consistently supporting Myanmar in the process of building and developing the country, as well as in ASEAN and regional and international forums.
The two sides emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea; Resolve disagreements and disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The two sides also agreed to increase exchange and share experiences in strategic areas of the region such as connecting transportation infrastructure between countries in the Mekong sub-region including Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, and cooperating in the management and sustainable use of water resources.
Also on September 5, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with President Min Aung Hlaing at the National Assembly House, sharing about the role of the two legislative bodies in the political system and development process of each country.
Both sides agreed that parliamentary diplomacy plays an important role in bilateral relations, contributing to strengthening political trust, promoting and monitoring the implementation of high-level agreements, thereby positively contributing to peace, stability and cooperation in the region and the world.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man requested that the Myanmar government pay attention to solving and removing difficulties of Vietnamese businesses investing and doing business in Myanmar, creating conditions for businesses to actively contribute to Myanmar's socio-economic development.
The two leaders agreed to promote the effective implementation of the Cooperation Agreement signed between the two countries' parliaments and promote the role of the legislature in creating a favorable legal corridor, effectively monitoring the progress of implementing high-level agreements, and collectively contributing to the Vietnam - Myanmar Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership.
The President of Myanmar paid an official visit to Vietnam on September 4-6. This is his first visit to Vietnam after Myanmar completed the general election in January and established a new government, and is the highest-level exchange of delegations between the two sides since 2019.
Vietnam and Myanmar established diplomatic relations on May 28, 1975, upgraded to Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership in August 2017. Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Nguyen Anh Duc said that President Min Aung Hlaing's visit will contribute to consolidating traditional friendship relations, enhancing political trust between the two countries, and promoting the expansion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
