TRE-PI rejects candidacy registrations of Lourdes Melo, Democrat and PSTU ticket for 2026 elections

According to TRE-PI, Lourdes Melo's Candidacy Registration Request (RRC) was rejected after magistrates found the existence of a “serious non-conformity between the party's conventional deliberations” and the request formulated in the Demonstrative of Regularity of Party Acts (DRAP).

The Democratic candidate list for the positions of governor and vice-governor was invalidated, according to TRE-PI, because the party's activities were suspended on the date of the convention, on July 29.

According to the organization, a final court decision in 2022 suspended the Democrat's activities due to the failure to provide accounts for the 2019 financial year.

"The collegiate unanimously understood that the party was legally suspended from its activities, lacking the aptitude and capacity to deliberate, choose candidates or carry out any acts of a political and electoral nature on the day of the convention", informed TRE-PI.

Sought by g1, Ravenna da Indições stated that the party will appeal the decision and reinforced that the requested documentation was resubmitted. According to her, TRE-PI claimed that the resubmission occurred outside the established deadline.

Lourdes Melo and Ravenna da Indições can maintain electoral campaign activities until the final decision, that is, after all resources have been exhausted.

TRE-PI must complete the judgment of candidacy records by September 15th.

The body also rejected the PSTU's registration to contest the 2026 elections and, as a consequence, the candidacies of Geraldo Carvalho for the government of Piauí and Danniel Rocha for the Senate.

The rejection occurred due to accounts for the years 2015 and 2017 and the 2018 elections, which were judged as not being provided.

To g1, Geraldo Carvalho stated that the pending issue is administrative and has no relation to the candidacies. According to him, the party has already appealed and the campaign will continue normally.
