Three dead, including a pregnant woman, in a shooting on Isla Cristina

Isla Cristina, in Huelva, woke up this Monday to a strong police presence and the concern of a town that is still trying to assimilate the crime that occurred on Sunday night. Three people died in a shooting in the El Rocío neighborhood. They are a 39-year-old woman who is eight months pregnant, another 62-year-old woman and a 16-year-old minor. Two other people were injured, one of them seriously.

The event occurred around ten at night. According to the Civil Guard, two individuals arrived on a motorcycle and one of them shot with a long gun. The perpetrators then fled the scene, leaving the lifeless bodies of the three victims lying on the public road. The investigation is under summary secrecy.

“The alarm in the town is very great,” explained this Monday the mayor of Isla Cristina, Jenaro Orta. The mayor has described the scene after the shooting as “dangerous” and has asked for caution in the face of an investigation that remains open.

The Civil Guard points to a possible settling of accounts related to other violent episodes. Specifically, the investigation could be related to the shooting that occurred in September 2024 in the Torrejón neighborhood of Huelva capital, in which one person died and two others were injured.

According to Benemérita, the two deceased women were the mother-in-law and sister of the alleged perpetrator of that shooting. The seriously injured person is his nephew. The 16-year-old minor, however, would have no relationship with the two women or with the alleged settling of accounts, according to investigators.

After the attack, the alleged perpetrators burned the motorcycle used to travel to the location. The fire later occurred in some pine forests near Isla Cristina. The mayor believes that they could have tried to distract the security forces with this.

The Civil Guard maintains an extensive device to locate those responsible while the investigations continue. The area remains under a significant police presence. The mayor has called for caution and has expressed his hope that those responsible will be arrested soon. “Hopefully the waters will return to normal,” he noted, trusting that there will be no reprisals in the coming hours and days.

Isla Cristina thus faces the day after a crime that has left three dead and two injured and has returned the municipality's concern about violence that, according to the first indications of the investigation, could be linked to previous confrontations.
