Customs seized SEK 1.2 million from two men who were stopped in Germany

The man and a friend had been in Germany when they were stopped by Customs. They stated that they had nothing to declare, but when alcohol was visible in the car, they were taken in for a check.

114,500 euros, close to SEK 1.2 million, were found in their jacket pockets. The 30-year-old man claims to have been in Germany and sold gold. According to him himself, the gold had previously been seized by the police and he had got it back and now sold it.

International links to criminal gangs

Despite the fact that the man is not suspected of any crime in connection with the confiscation, the Customs took the money. The man and his family are already well known to the police and are considered to be part of a criminal network with national and international branches. The financial investigation shows that the man has income below the subsistence minimum. Last year, according to the Tax Agency, he had a reported income of just under SEK 35,000. The money found in the men's jacket pockets is therefore deemed to come from crime.

During the investigation, the man later presented documents from buyers in Germany, but the Jönköping District Court considers that he should have shown these when the money was seized.
