Nine convicted for beating Hammarby fans in Solna subway

Early in the morning on April 20 last year, around a hundred AIK supporters gathered at Västra skogen subway station in Solna. According to a verdict, several people are masking themselves. Some put on balaclavas, others use buffs to hide their faces. Surveillance video shows how several people also arm themselves with life belts, boxing gloves and bottles.

The events take place, according to the investigation, on a given signal. The judgment states that "someone has a belt wrapped around his hand with the rest of the belt hanging out like a whip".

Another group of supporters – according to the investigation, Hammarbyfans – then move at the same time in another part of the subway station. When the two groups are close to each other, the group of AIK supporters start running towards the other group - and a violent confrontation ensues.

A person is lying in a flowerbed and receives kicks from several other people. The kicks hit both the body and the head, according to the investigation. The person may also receive several blows with what appears to be a belt.

Another person ends up on the ground at a crosswalk and also receives several kicks from different people.

In May this year, a total of 13 people were charged with aggravated assault or attempted aggravated assault following the incident last year. The prosecutor then said that the men had shown "special brutality" by kicking people who were lying down in numerical superiority. All the defendants denied any wrongdoing.

Now a total of nine of the 13 people are sentenced after the assault at the subway station, which the local newspaper Mitt i has reported on. Two receive a year's imprisonment and community service respectively for assault, the other seven are sentenced to six months' imprisonment for aiding and abetting.

According to the Solna district court, the convicted men are AIK supporters and it also appears that the two victims were Hammarby supporters - who, however, have not been identified. The majority of the convicted persons are in their 20s.

Four of the accused persons are fully acquitted on the grounds that it has not been possible to prove that they participated in the assault.
