Türkiye rose to third place in the world university rankings

According to the statement made by YÖK; 124 universities from Turkey were included in the ranking, in which a total of 2,297 higher education institutions from 118 countries around the world were evaluated.

Türkiye, which was represented in the rankings with 109 universities last year, ranked third in the world after the USA and India, with 15 more universities entering the list this year.

Middle East Technical University (METU), Koç University, Sabancı University and Boğaziçi University from Turkey were among the top 500 universities in the world. A total of 13 Turkish universities entered the top 1000.

Among the universities in the rankings from Turkey, METU and Koç University achieved the highest ranking.

Both universities were in the 326-350 band in the world rankings.

Sabancı University took its place among the top 500 universities in the world by entering the 376-400 band, and Boğaziçi University entered the 401-450 band.

While Bilkent University and Istanbul Technical University (ITU) were in the 651-700 band, Abdullah Gül University, Atatürk University, Hacettepe University, Istanbul Nişantaşı University, İstinye University, Özyeğin University and Yıldız Technical University were the other universities that managed to enter the top 1000 by finding a place in the 801-1000 band.

'OUR RISE IN GLOBAL COMPETITION CONTINUES'

In his written evaluation of the results, President of the Council of Higher Education Erol Özvar stated that Turkey's rise to third place in the world with 124 universities is important as it shows the point that the visibility and representation power of Turkish higher education in the international arena has reached.

Özvar said, "Our rise in global competition continues. We will continue to increase the weight of Turkish higher education in the world. Our goal is to be in the top 100 with at least two state and two foundation universities."

Erol Özvar said, "We find it valuable that the number of universities in the rankings increased from 109 to 124 in one year. Our next priority is to support this broad representation with a strong academic performance that carries our universities' positions in the rankings higher."

Emphasizing that they do not see the place of universities in international rankings only as a numerical indicator, Özvar said, "We want to constantly increase the scientific production power, qualified research capacity and academic contribution of our universities to the world. We will continue our work to ensure that more of our universities are among the world's leading higher education institutions."
