The share of solar and wind energy in Türkiye's electricity production increased

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Türkiye's recent acceleration in solar and wind energy investments has significantly increased the share of these resources in production.

With the "National Energy and Mining Policy" put forward in 2016, Türkiye's power not only in oil and natural gas but also in solar and wind energy was taken to a new level.

The share of solar in electricity production, which was 0.4 percent in 2016, increased by 28 times to 11.6 percent as of July 2026. The share of wind in electricity production, which was 5.7 percent 10 years ago, increased by 1.1 times to 12.1 percent in the same period.

On the other hand, a similar pattern to the share increases in electricity production also manifested itself in solar and wind installed capacity. Türkiye's installed electricity capacity increased to 126 thousand 476 megawatts at the end of July this year. During this period, the share of solar in installed power increased to 21.7 percent with 27 thousand 507 megawatts, while the share of wind reached 15 thousand 358 megawatts and was recorded as 12.1 percent.

The total installed capacity of solar and wind increased to 42 thousand 865 megawatts with a share of 33.8 percent in this period.

In addition, electricity production from solar energy broke the record in July, following the record broken in June. In July, the electricity production value from solar energy was recorded as the highest value of all time on a monthly basis with 5.37 billion kilowatt hours.

The goal of clean and affordable energy for all

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated in his evaluation that they have made a great transformation in Türkiye's energy in the last 10 years and said:

"We increased the share of solar in electricity generation by 28 times to 11.6 percent, and the share of wind to 12.1 percent. Our total installed power in solar and wind reached approximately 43 thousand megawatts. This transformation is a strong indicator of our goal of a Fully Independent Turkey in Energy, as well as the concrete steps we have taken for a cleaner energy future. We will present this great success in renewable energy at COP31, which will be held in Antalya, in the new "We will continue to transform Türkiye's wind and sun into our nation's energy and build a strong infrastructure that makes reliable, clean and affordable energy accessible to everyone."
