With the increase in postal traffic in Türkiye, the allocation of investment by service providers to respond to demand has also increased. Thus, the total investment made in the sector in the first half of this year was 3 billion 524 million lira.
According to the compilation of the "2026 First Half Turkish Postal Sector Market Data Report" prepared by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the increase in postal parcels and cargo shipments continued with the growth of e-commerce.
The postal sector in Türkiye has gained great momentum in recent years. The number of postal parcels and cargo shipments, which was approximately 691 million in the first half of last year, increased by 5.4 percent and reached 728.31 million in the same period of this year.
THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES IN THE POSTAL SECTOR WAS 122 THOUSAND 804
With the increase in mail traffic, investments by service providers continued to respond to this demand. In this context, the total amount of investments made by postal service providers in this field in the first 6 months of 2026 was 3 billion 524 million liras.
Additionally, the number of employees working in the postal sector during this period was 122 thousand 804.
PTT, which is responsible for providing universal postal service throughout the country, employed 32 percent of the total personnel working in the postal sector in the said period, followed by Yurtiçi Kargo with 14 percent and Aras Kargo with 11 percent.
"NEW BUSINESS MODELS RAPIDLY DEVELOPED THE STRUCTURE OF THE POSTAL INDUSTRY"
In his evaluation on the subject, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the postal service, one of the oldest and most common means of communication, has gone through a very rapid and comprehensive transformation process in recent years, and that new business models have rapidly improved the structure of the postal service sector with the change in technology and user demands. Pointing out that the postal sector has transformed into a different structure, especially with the growth of e-commerce and the acceleration of technological developments, Uraloğlu said, "The most obvious result of this transformation is the decrease in the volume of traditional letter mail and the increase in package shipments originating from e-commerce. This trend is expected to continue in the coming period." he said.
Uraloğlu reminded that the regulation and supervision duties in the postal sector were given to BTK with the Postal Services Law, and stated that it is aimed to provide postal services throughout the country with quality, continuity, at affordable prices for all users, within the framework of effective, competitive principles. Emphasizing that investments in the sector continue so that users can receive better quality services at lower prices, Uraloğlu said:
"As Turkey, our goal is to be among the top 10 economies in the world. It is clear that we can achieve our goal with the contribution of science, technology and the successful results of the digitalization studies it brings to our economy. For this reason, as countries of the world, we have to come up with ideas together on ways to encourage innovation and technological developments in the postal ecosystem and how we can develop this field in order to achieve regional and global development goals by taking advantage of the sector's digital infrastructure."
