Ukraine launched a large-scale raid on the capital Moscow

600 Ukrainian UAVs targeted Moscow in an attack described by Russian officials as the largest in the past two years.

"Ukraine's 600 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) headed towards the Moscow area on the night of August 15 and the morning of August 16. Of these, 201 were shot down over the airspace of Moscow province. Emergency forces are working in areas where debris fell," said Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

Moscow Governor Andrey Vorobyov described this as "one of the largest-scale UAV raids in recent times". TASS news agency also assessed this as Ukraine's largest UAV attack on the capital Moscow since March 2025.

There are no signs that Ukrainian UAVs have reached the airspace of the capital Moscow.

The attack set fire to a warehouse owned by Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer, in the city of Podolsk about 45 km from Moscow. Governor Vorobyov said an 83-year-old man in Podolsk was killed and six people were injured.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it shot down 822 Ukrainian UAVs in many areas within 12 hours, from 8:00 p.m. on August 15 to 8:00 a.m. today.

Ukrainian officials have not yet commented on the information.

Since mid-July, Ukraine has attacked about 20 warehouses and infrastructure of Wildberries, on the grounds that this is a place to store and supply components for unmanned equipment (drones), navigation systems and other equipment of the Russian military.

Russian officials and representatives of Wildberries denied the information, criticizing Ukraine for "attacking civilians and civil structures" in the above incidents.

Ukraine at the end of June launched a "40 days of pressure" attack campaign, with the main targets being oil refineries, oil depots, logistics centers, airports and many locations deep inside Russia and areas controlled by the country. Also during this period, Ukrainian forces raided many Russian commercial ships and logistics vehicles in the Black Sea and the Sea of ​​Azov.

Analysts assess that Kiev achieved some tactical successes, but did not fulfill the campaign's highest goal of pressuring and forcing Moscow to end hostilities. On the contrary, Russia has stepped up its response with missile and UAV raids targeting defense facilities specializing in producing UAVs used in Ukraine's campaign.

The Russian military also attacked a series of cargo ships suspected of carrying weapons and military supplies to the enemy in the Black Sea, as well as raided seaport infrastructure in Odessa and Mykolaiv provinces. Ukrainian media described this operation as completely blocking seaports, affecting export activities and causing "the most serious economic problem" for Kiev.
