Ukraine: Russian night attack leaves at least 18 injured in kyiv

A nighttime attack by Russian missiles and drones against kyiv left at least eighteen injured, Ukrainian authorities announced Thursday.

“There are already 18 injured in kyiv,” the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, declared on social networks. He had previously indicated that a residential building had been hit. Ukrainian Railways also reported damage at the Mykilska Slobidka station in eastern kyiv.

In the early hours of Thursday, AFP journalists heard a dozen loud explosions in the capital. “Once again, civilian infrastructure has been targeted, and damage has been reported in eight regions,” denounced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on social networks.

In the Odessa region, on the shores of the Black Sea and regularly targeted by Russian strikes, seven people were injured in the bombing of a 19-story residential building, according to Ukrainian emergency services. In the neighboring region of Zaporizhia, a missile attack also injured three people, according to local authorities.

These strikes come as American deputies approved, on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, massive new sanctions against Russia in order to encourage it to end its invasion of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the summer, Russia has increased bombings on the Ukrainian capital's logistical infrastructure, day and night, using drones and missiles that kyiv is struggling to intercept due to lack of ammunition.
