A 15-year-old teenager falls from the Jean-Mermoz high school in Montpellier, life threatening

Staff and students at the Jean-Mermoz high school in Montpellier are holding their breath after the fall of a 15-year-old teenager from the top floor of the establishment this Wednesday, September 16, around 9:30 a.m. Treated in an absolute emergency by the teams of the firefighters and the Smur de l'Hérault, he was transferred to intensive care at Lapeyronie hospital, indicates Midi Libre, which specifies that his vital prognosis is in jeopardy. Information confirmed by the Montpellier public prosecutor's office in Le Figaro.

“I confirm the nature of the facts and the consequences of the injuries caused to the high school student. An investigation is opened to determine the circumstances of these serious injuries and is entrusted to the Montpellier police station,” adds the public prosecutor. According to the staff of the Interdepartmental Directorate of the National Police (DIPN) of Hérault, cited by Metropolitain, the teenager committed a voluntary act by throwing himself from a passageway on the fourth floor of the high school after putting down his backpack.

The hypothesis of an intervention by a third party or an accidental fall would thus be ruled out, which Midi Libre corroborates by indicating via police sources that the high school student would have climbed over the guardrail before his fall of around fifteen meters. The regional daily specifies that the latter suffered from attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity (ADHD) with psychological monitoring.

A psychological unit deployed

“Faced with this tragedy, I provide all my support to the teenager’s family and to the entire educational community,” declared the academic director of the Hérault National Education Services Aymeric Meis, who visited the site, quoted by ICI Occitanie. According to the rectorate of the Montpellier academy, “a psychological unit was immediately deployed by the SAMU and supplemented by a listening device set up by National Education in order to support the educational team and the students”.

A message was also sent to parents of students via the Pronote platform by the high school principal, reports France 3 Occitanie. “We invite you to exercise vigilance with your children regarding the information conveyed by social networks. Possible disruptions to classes are to be expected and the functioning of the school will be adjusted taking into account the emotion aroused by this serious event,” he warns.
