An investigating judge seized after the homophobic attack on the president of FLAG! in Paris

An investigating judge was asked to investigate the attack this weekend in Paris on the president of an LGBT+ association of police officers and justice officials, AFP learned on Monday from the capital's prosecutor's office. Judicial information was opened for violence followed by total incapacity for work (ITT) of more than eight days, as well as for theft.

The suspect, born in 2006 and with a clean criminal record, must be presented to an investigating judge, who will decide whether to indict him or not. The Paris prosecutor's office indicated that it had requested his placement under judicial supervision. The alleged violence is criminally aggravated because it was committed, according to the prosecution, because of the sexual orientation or gender identity of the victim. The suspect's “obvious state of intoxication” as well as the use of “a weapon” are two other aggravating circumstances retained.

The perpetrator of the attack called the victim a “dirty faggot”

Pierre Picavet, police officer and president of FLAG!, an association fighting against discrimination and LGBTphobic violence bringing together agents from the Ministries of the Interior and Justice, was attacked shortly before 4 a.m. on Saturday leaving a bar in the Marais district, in the heart of the capital. The victim showed numerous traces of injuries (internal bleeding, open skull, etc.), notably following a bottle thrown, according to the prosecution.

In his complaint, the victim indicated that the perpetrator of the attack had called him a “dirty faggot” on several occasions, the prosecution said on Sunday. “She immediately denied her status as a police officer while showing him her professional card, without dissuading the accused from attacking her,” added the public prosecutor.
