A 5-year-old girl found dead in Blois, her father seriously injured after a suicide attempt

A 5-year-old girl was found dead on Monday at her father's home in Blois (Loir-et-Cher). The 42-year-old man was also in the house, seriously injured after attempting suicide with a knife. 20 Minutes takes stock of this family drama.

What happened in the house?

The alert was given after the child was absent from school Monday morning. She had spent the weekend with her father, who had to drop her off at class. Informed by the school, his mother contacted the police. Investigators then located the phone of the forty-year-old and went to his home, in the south of Blois.

When there was no response, the police entered the house through a window. They discovered the deceased girl and her father “in critical medical condition”, with a bladed weapon nearby. According to the Blois public prosecutor, Stéphane Javet, the police “were very responsive”. The child's body did not present "any apparent lesions" and an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

The trail of infanticide and a suicide attempt

“The most likely hypothesis is that of infanticide, followed by a suicide attempt,” said Stéphane Javet. The father allegedly tried to end his life by inflicting “several stab wounds” on himself. He has “numerous cuts”, particularly on his throat, but his vital prognosis is “not in jeopardy”.

Hospitalized at the Blois Hospital Center, the man was not yet ready to be questioned by investigators. His placement in police custody must take place “as soon as medically possible”. “We are in a phase of gathering information, we are now seeking to understand the reasons for taking action,” said the prosecutor.

A conflicting family context

The parents had been separated since 2024 and had “difficult relationships”. Due to this “acute family conflict”, an educational assistance measure in an open environment was ordered by a children’s judge. In 2025, the father was also given a six-month suspended prison sentence for malicious phone calls to his former partner. The child's mother and grandmother were treated by a medical-psychological service.
