KRASNODAR, September 25 - RIA Novosti. The crew of the UNITY tanker arrested in the Indian port, which has Russians on board, faces regular food delays; in the last week before the next delivery, they are forced to eat only potatoes and beets, one of the ship’s crew members told RIA Novosti.

The Cameroon-flagged tanker UNITY was seized off the coast of India in May this year due to a commercial dispute. Since then, the ship, containing 21 Russians and two foreigners, has been anchored near the port of Paradip. The tanker owner ignores the sailors' requests.

As relatives of the crew members previously told RIA Novosti, in June the crew was forced to live from hand to mouth, eating four potatoes per day per person. Since the end of July, the insurance company began helping to replenish food supplies on the tanker, but deliveries are regularly delayed.

“We are standing 20 miles from the coast of India, the captain submits a request for food two or three weeks in advance. But they wait until the last minute. Usually for the last week we eat potatoes and beets twice a day. And nothing else,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
