Ursula von der Leyen announces the European Crisis Response Framework

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the European Crisis Response Framework. They are to be launched only when strictly defined criteria are met and allow "temporary and precisely defined flexibility of standard procedures" in such situations.

The head of the Commission talked about situations in which there is a mass influx of migrants organized and used as a weapon. She pointed, among other things, to the crisis in Ceuta, Spain. In her opinion, this summer's events have shown that EU solutions must also be adapted to emergency situations.

RMF FM correspondent in Brussels, Katarzyna Szymańska-Borginon, was the first to reveal that Poland had been seeking for several weeks for the EU to adopt Polish solutions, e.g. temporary suspension of the right to submit asylum applications in the event of organized and aggressive crossing of the border. Poland uses such a solution on the border with Belarus. Von der Leyen opened the way to discussions about a temporary derogation from standard procedures in crisis situations. Details of the new framework are yet to be worked out. Maciej Duszczyk, deputy head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, emphasizes that it is not about one solution for everyone.

The situation on our border is different than in the south. There is no one solution that fits everywhere - he told RMF FM.

Poland now wants to work with the Commission and other countries on the details, sharing experiences from the border with Belarus. Von der Leyen also emphasized that the EU will respect its values ​​and fundamental rights.

However, we will never compromise on the protection of our borders, she said.
