The US Army Reserve is preparing for a potential operation in Cuba

As reported by CBS, the US Army Reserve forces have been ordered to check whether it will be able to provide the US Southern Command (responsible for Central and South America) with military police forces, medical personnel and other support units over the next four months. Although Cuba is not mentioned by name in the document, according to the station's sources, these actions are aimed at preparing the ground for a potential operation on the island.

The letter does not mention any orders to deploy military units. However, it asks for information on the possible availability of six types of support units that "could be needed in 90-120 days." It also orders commands to provide feedback to the Army Reserve command by September 25.

The units include a combat supply support battalion, which specializes in logistics coordination, as well as an engineering battalion. The document also calls for the creation of an expeditionary supply command that would supervise logistics throughout the entire theater of war.

The document also mentions the creation of a medical brigade to command and coordinate medical units, as well as a forward surgical unit.

The military refuses to comment

A spokesman for U.S. Southern Command declined to comment directly but said it is "continuously coordinating with the Joint Force to assess a range of potential needs."

Research of the bottom and sea approaches

CBS reported that earlier this year, U.S. forces conducted reconnaissance operations on the seabed and maritime approaches around Cuba. Air Force components were also previously placed on high alert and directed to pre-deployment personnel. Ultimately, however, the deployment did not take place.

The potential preparations take place against the background of growing US pressure against the communist authorities in Cuba and President Trump's open declarations of his intention to change the status quo on the island. Trump also refused to rule out the use of force.
