Üsküdar Municipality Deputy Mayor election has been postponed

The Üsküdar Deputy Mayor election, which was expected to be held today in the Üsküdar Municipal Council, was postponed due to the "absolute majority not being achieved".

Müslim Sarı, the spokesperson of the 'absolutely void' CHP, made a statement on his social media account regarding the election postponed to Tuesday, September 8.

Sarı said:

"As the CHP and the New Party group, we have decided not to participate in the Üsküdar Municipality Deputy Mayor election to be held today, in order to ensure that our detained Municipal Council Member friends can vote. Thus, since the absolute majority could not be achieved, the election was postponed to Tuesday, September 8, 2026."

SLOGANS OF DETERMINATION FROM CITIZENS

Before the re-election, the police closed the area around the town hall with barriers and extraordinary measures were taken.

Members of the press who have followed all the elections held in Istanbul so far have encountered obstacles when entering. However, at around 10.30, it was announced that the election was postponed to September 8 because the parliamentary majority could not be achieved. During the hours when the decision was announced, citizens in front of the municipality shouted slogans such as "We will win by resisting", "Sinem Dedetaş is our honor", "Free Istanbul, Free Turkey".
