Vannacci ends the electoral campaign in Reggio Calabria with Giannetta, attacks the government on Ukraine and opens up to the League

An incursion into the heart of Reggio Calabria led by Forzi. Together with Domenico Giannetta, candidate of Futuro Nazionale, Roberto Vannacci closes the electoral campaign for the by-elections, scheduled for 27 and 28 September, in front of around 500 people, including supporters who crowd the space in front of the stage and onlookers who stop at the entrance to the square and along Corso Garibaldi, also attracted by the general's media hype.

Before going on stage Vannacci reiterates the line, explaining how the aspiration is not to "counter Forza Italia", but only to "promote the national future". But the choice of Piazza Duomo, the heart of Reggio Calabria where Forza Italia was the most voted party in the last municipal elections, as in the regional ones, does not seem random, and sounds like a strong and clear signal to the entire centre-right. "We are a true, authentic right, which is not ashamed", underlines Vannacci, continuing to sting the other parties "who declare themselves to be right-wing" and have up to now followed a "watered-down policy". Right-wing politics which the general, on the contrary, does not intend to dilute at all by establishing red lines around "sovereignty, meritocracy and identity" because the ambition, he tells reporters, is "to represent the Italian right".

On stage Vannacci is a river in flood, strongly claiming the choice of a candidate for the by-elections rooted in the territory, like Domenico Giannetta, even going so far as to touch on international political issues such as the war in Ukraine. This is an argument that inevitably leads the general's team to clash with the line followed up to now by the government. In Ukraine, Vannacci said, "we want peace and we want to stop taking resources away from our families, our entrepreneurs, our children, our hospitals, to give them to Ukraine. Enough of weapons and money for Ukraine and long live peace".

But despite the apparent distances with the governing majority, Vannacci never closes the door to dialogue and on the solidity of a possible alliance, especially with the League, his former party, he claims his reliability, because "I always base myself on the same principles, values and ideals", he says, then I dig in: "If the League deviates from these values I'm sorry, it's the League that will lose its compass. I move forward for the principles, values and ideals that I have declared to be those of the party and for which I am voted for by the voters."

In closing, the call to vote: "On the 27th and 28th you will have the opportunity to express yourself, either according to the vote of obedience, of subjection, the one who responds to the master's whistle, or according to the vote of freedom, that of being able to choose one of your fellow citizens to represent you in Rome". While the general rings the bell a few days before the vote, the centre-right candidate, Fabio Roscioli, receives the support of Luigi Marattin's Liberal Democratic Party. In a challenge where at the crossroads between the center-right and Vannacci the candidate of the broad camp, Frank Benedetto, continues his electoral campaign without fanfare and without raising his tone.
