Councilor and PM corporal chase and arrest man who tried to kill his ex-wife, in Goiás

The councilor for Goiânia and military police officer Sergeant Novandir (Democrat) participated in the arrest of a man suspected of trying to kill his ex-partner, in Goiânia. The case happened on Wednesday night (14), in Jardim Guanabara. According to the parliamentarian, the man was chased and shot in the leg before being arrested with the help of a Military Police (PM) corporal. A video shared by Novandir shows the action.

According to Novandir, the woman had a protective measure against her ex-partner, who allegedly started threatening her with a knife after she refused to resume the relationship.

In a speech at the City Council gallery, on Thursday (15), the councilor said that he was contacted by residents who reported that the man was trying to break into his ex-partner's home. According to him, three children were in the property, including an eight-month-old baby.

g1 was unable to contact the suspect's defense. He was taken to the police station by military police who responded to the incident. Until the last update of this report, there was no information about his health status.

Children called for help inside the house

According to Novandir, the woman sought shelter at a friend's house, who lives nearby. Before looking for the councilor, residents would also have contacted the Military Police headquarters. As he arrived at the scene first, the parliamentarian stated that he searched the area and found the suspect trying to force his way into the house.

"And we managed to approach him trying to break down the door of the woman's house. She wasn't there, but there were three children there, one eight months old, screaming, asking for help. And when I approached this criminal, he didn't obey my order so that he put his hand on his head and lay down on the floor", he said.

Faced with the suspect's refusal to obey orders, Novandir stated that he had to use a firearm to immobilize him.

"It was necessary for me to shoot him in the leg, where he was shot and reduced his reaction. He lay down on the ground and we arrested him and led him away", he reported.

Councilor says he acted within the law

Still on the stand, when responding to questions about the approach, the parliamentarian stated that he acted within the limits of the law and that he only acts in situations of self-defense or that of third parties.

"Firstly, I work within the law. And I will only act in self-defense of myself and others. But this criminal, considering that he is very dangerous, if he asked me: 'What was his desire? To have him arrested and shot or him inside the IML cubicle?' I wanted him inside the IML cubicle. Do you know why? That mother has three daughters and this criminal will quickly get out of jail and the family’s life will be put at risk”, he declared.

Novandir also stated that he felt he had fulfilled his duty by intervening in the incident, despite the risk that, according to him, he faced.

"Last night, I put my life at risk. But today I come to this stand with the feeling of duty fulfilled. Yesterday an individual tried to kill a woman with a knife and that woman ran to a house and the owner of the house called me. I immediately went there", he stated.

Career in politics and the Military Police

Novandir was re-elected councilor for Goiânia in 2024. In 2026, he ran for a seat in the Legislative Assembly of Goiás (Alego), but was unable to be elected.

In the Military Police of Goiás, he served for nine years in the Ostensive Rapid Intervention Group (Giro) and for six years in the Military Shock Police Battalion (BPMChoque).
