Video of Korean female vlogger being insulted by Tanzanian men causes controversy

Korean female vlogger Ahn Eun-ji's video recording the scene of being surrounded and physically touched by a group of Tanzanian men while traveling alone is causing controversy in her home country.

The video of Eun-ji, owner of the travel channel "Moreunji" with about 440,000 followers, filmed in March during a trip to Tanzania, suddenly gained attention again recently, reaching more than one million views.

In the video, Eun-ji is surrounded by a group of men while sitting on a motorbike, traveling alone in Tanzania. Some people deliberately kissed her cheeks, pressed her body close, and touched her arms and shoulders. Frightened, Eun-ji continuously cowered to avoid it, warning, "Don't touch me," but the crowd continued to come. After a few minutes, her driver managed to escape the crowd.

"Going on safari in Africa used to be a dream and I came here just for that. Why is this place so harsh?", Eun-ji wrote in the video description, calling Tanzania "the worst tourist destination".

The incident quickly caused debate in the Korean online community with two opposing opinions. One side expressed concern for Eun-ji's safety: "Making content is important, but your life is more important. I want to continue watching your videos so please go to safe places," one person commented.

Meanwhile, some other comments criticized her for putting herself in dangerous situations to attract viewers. "For viewers like us, the content is really sensational but I'm very worried about you," another person commented.

The debate also caused Korean public opinion to pay more attention to the issue of safety when traveling abroad alone, especially in Tanzania. Sexual abuse cases in this country tend to decrease, but the rate of female victims remains high. According to statistics released by the Tanzanian government in June, the number of sexual abuse cases decreased from 12,749 cases in 2024 to 11,625 cases in 2025; Of which 10,057 are female (accounting for 86%).

Authorities in many countries also continuously warn female tourists when coming to Tanzania. The British Foreign Ministry has recorded cases of foreign tourists being sexually assaulted and raped here (including at coastal resorts), advising them to avoid traveling alone at night and to be cautious of invitations for rides from strangers.
