Election campaign of the Berlin Left: Focus on affordable housing and social issues

The Berlin Left has a lot planned. Their central slogan in the election campaign was: “Make Berlin affordable.” To achieve this, the party doesn’t just want to incorporate housing companies in the capital. Among other things, it also calls for rents for state-owned apartments to be capped, prices for local public transport to be reduced, and so-called neighborhood canteens to be introduced. “For many, even a simple lunch becomes a luxury,” says the Berlin Left’s election manifesto.

The Left obviously reached many people with its issues during the election campaign. According to a survey by the opinion research institute Infratest dimap, she was able to score points above all with her proposals on housing policy. 37 percent of Berliners are convinced that the Left is most likely to provide affordable housing. This puts it far ahead of the other parties.
