Bus accident in Hungary: Government spokesman on the return of the injured

Government spokesman Adam Szłapka said at the conference that about 20 people injured in Sunday's bus accident could return to the country by plane today. It's about those who are at their best. The plane is to make a stopover in Rzeszów.

Szłapka explained that it is possible to transport people in more serious condition on board the CASA military aircraft so that they can be further treated in Polish hospitals. The most seriously injured will be able to return on a special medical plane.

Szłapka: Identifications are still ongoing

Answering journalists' questions, the government spokesman assured that state support related to the accident would also cover the transport of the victims' bodies to Poland.

Identification is still underway, these decisions will be made on an ongoing basis, on the spot - he said when asked when exactly such transport could take place.

A tragic return from a pilgrimage

The accident occurred on Sunday around 1 on the Hungarian M3 highway, near the town of Mezokeresztes in the eastern part of the country. The bus was carrying 59 Polish citizens returning from a pilgrimage in Bosnia and Herzegovina. 12 people died and the condition of 10 was stated to be serious.

All fatalities were adult residents of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The remaining 37 passengers suffered minor injuries. Most of the travelers came from Podkarpacie.

This morning, a medical team from the Ministry of Health is visiting four Hungarian medical facilities where injured Poles are staying. The group consists of three rescuers and three doctors: a neurologist, an orthopedist and an anesthesiologist.

The task of the medics is to assess - in cooperation with Hungarian doctors - the medical condition of patients in terms of the possibility of their safe transport to the country.
