NEW Party's 'chairmanship election' excitement: Members went to the polls in Malatya

There is ballot box excitement in the member-based primary election held for the chairmanship of the NEW Party before the 1st Ordinary Congress.

While approximately 3 thousand ballot boxes were established in 81 provinces across Türkiye, members of district organizations, especially in Battalgazi and Yeşilyurt districts of Malatya, went to the polls at 09.00 in the morning to vote.

Voting will end at 17.00. Current Chairman Özgür Özel is the only candidate in the primary election, where party members can vote until November 5, 2026.

“OUR MEMBERS ALSO ELECT OUR GENERAL PRESIDENT”

NEW Party Battalgazi District Chairman Alper Gürsoy, in his statement regarding the primary election, stated that there was activity in the party building since the early hours of the morning.

Stating that they were pleased with the interest shown by the members, Gürsoy said, "We thank all our members very much. It is going very well, it is very crowded. You gave the name of the NEW Party. You paid the money. You elected the district and provincial presidents. Today, you are electing the chairman."

“LET IT BE AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHER PARTIES IN TURKEY”

Drawing attention to the importance of members having a direct say in determining party management, Gürsoy said that they wanted the practice to be an example for other political parties in Türkiye.

Gürsoy said, "We hope this will be an example for other parties in Türkiye. From now on, the provincial president, district president, chairman and deputy will all be elected by the members of the NEW Party. Today is our most important day. We are electing our chairman."

“PARTICIPATION IN THE PREVIOUS ELECTION EXCEEDED 90 PERCENT”

Reminding that there was intense participation in the provincial presidential primary election previously held in Malatya, Gürsoy stated that they were pleased with the interest shown by the members in the decision-making processes within the party.

Gürsoy said, "The participation rate is very good for us right now. Last time, we received a participation rate of over 90 percent in the primary election for the provincial chairman. We were very pleased. We had a very enjoyable time at the party. We were never idle. We were very pleased with this interest and concern."

NEW Party's 1st Ordinary Congress will be held at Ankara Sports Hall on 14-15 November.
