NEW Party's name is on the agenda of the Constitutional Court

Following the Innovation Party's application regarding the name similarity with the NEW Party, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court of Appeals gave the NEW Party time to make a name change.

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office brought the request to the Constitutional Court after the deadline expired on September 18.

The Constitutional Court placed the request for the invalidation of the name of the NEW Party and its removal from the political parties registry, on the agenda of the General Assembly, on the grounds that it is contrary to the Political Parties Law. The Supreme Court will discuss the application tomorrow.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT?

It is expected that the Constitutional Court will give the NEW Party time to make its defense on the issue within the scope of the investigation.

The decision of the General Assembly of the Constitutional Court will be awaited after the letter of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court of Appeals, the opinion of the Innovation Party and the defense of the YENİ Party are received. If the Supreme Court finds a violation, it will decide that the name of the NEW Party will be invalid and deleted from the registry of political parties.

NEW Party had decided not to change its name until the Constitutional Court decided on the issue.
