Domestic tourists spent 115.4 billion lira to visit their relatives in the first half of the year

According to the information compiled by the AA correspondent from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data, domestic tourists spent 257.3 billion lira on travel within the country in the January-June period. There was an increase of approximately 33.1 percent in these expenditures compared to the same period last year.

Domestic tourists spent 159.5 million overnight stays in the first 6 months of this year.

When these domestic travels of tourists were examined according to their purposes, visiting relatives came first.

Domestic tourists spent 115 billion 429 million 350 thousand liras in the first half of the year to visit their relatives. In the same period last year, the expenditure made for this reason was 85 billion 226 million 5 thousand lira.

The category in which the most expenditure was made after visiting relatives was recorded as "travel, entertainment, holiday" with 107 billion 752 million 281 thousand lira. 83 billion 65 million 536 thousand liras were spent in the said category in the first 6 months of 2025.

Thus, of the total travel expenditure of 257.3 billion lira in the January-June period of this year, approximately 223.2 billion lira was spent for family visits and holidays.

114.6 million overnight stays visiting relatives

During the said period, 19 million 541 thousand trips were made to "visit relatives" and 114 million 623 thousand overnight stays were made in these trips.

In the same period, domestic tourists made 8 million 685 thousand trips for "travel, entertainment and holiday" and stayed 30 million 366 thousand nights.
