The number of foreigners arriving through Pudong International Airport has set a new annual record for four consecutive days

China News Service, Shanghai, October 14 (Chen Jing Li Yuhang) The Shanghai Airport Border Inspection Station disclosed on the 14th that on October 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th, the number of foreigners entering through the Pudong International Airport port hit new highs for four consecutive days, reaching 26,600, 26,900, 28,400, and 28,500 respectively, all setting annual records, highlighting the strong appeal of Shanghai as "China's first stop for inbound tourism."

On April 20 this year, Pudong International Airport set a record of 25,400 foreigners entering the country in a single day.

Recently, in addition to daily business exchanges, Shanghai has intensively welcomed activities such as the 26th Industrial Expo, the 25th China Shanghai International Arts Festival and International Performing Arts Conference, and many international events such as the Shanghai Masters and the 2026 Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Championships, bringing a large number of foreign exhibitors, athletes and tourists to the country. In addition, as China's visa-free "circle of friends" continues to expand, foreigners entering through visa-free and transit visa-free policies account for more than 60% of the total number of foreigners entering the country, providing a strong impetus for passenger flow growth.

Since the beginning of this year, the average daily number of foreign arrivals at Pudong International Airport has reached 16,000, and the data has increased significantly in the past three days. Faced with the rising inbound passenger flow, the Shanghai Airport Border Inspection Station has taken multiple measures to ensure smooth port clearance. The station optimizes and enriches the number of mobile police officers to ensure that police can be superimposed during peak hours; it conducts debugging and maintenance of duty equipment such as intelligent verification stations to ensure stable and efficient operation of equipment under heavy passenger flow pressure; the station relies on a self-developed precision service assistance system to predict passenger flow trends, lock in peak passenger flow periods such as evenings and early mornings, and open additional inspection channels in advance. At the same time, it implements zoning and classification inspections for incoming foreigners, and assigns more diversion guides to continue to shorten the waiting time for passengers.

With the continued deepening of the visa-free policy and the further expansion of the international air route network, Shanghai Port is expected to welcome more foreigners, injecting new momentum into the exhibition economy, foreign-related business and cultural tourism consumption, and helping high-level opening up to the outside world continue to reach a new level.
