Zhang Zhaolong, former deputy spokesperson of the New Taipei City Party Headquarters of the People's Party and candidate for New Taipei City Assembly without party membership, was accused of handing out carrot cakes from sheltered factories and US dollars to bribe votes during community activities. After a retrial, the New Taipei Procuratorate admitted that the crimes of bribery and public welfare embezzlement were serious, and there was a risk of collusion with the destruction of evidence. The court applied for a detention ban and was approved. In this regard, Ye Yaoyuan, chair professor of international studies at the University of St. Thomas in the United States, said that knowing the law and breaking the law or not even understanding the basics of bribery and corruption are already the traditions of the People's Party, so this incident will probably not be the last one before the People's Party dies.
