Police officers help Chen woman apply for a debit card

The Kaohsiung City Xiaogang Police Station received a notification from the Hongping Post Office in Kaohsiung City on the 14th. An 80-year-old woman surnamed Chen wanted to apply for a financial ATM card, but she was unable to submit her bankbook and was hesitant in her words. She also said, "Follow the instructions." The police answered the phone and contacted someone far north. The call between the woman and her son turned out to be that the mother and son were discussing the transfer of real estate through buying and selling. In order to allow Chen's wife to withdraw living expenses with an ATM card, Chen's wife was asked to apply for a debit card. However, the mother and son were still very grateful to the police for their alert investigation.

Policemen Shen Dingwu and Xie Yongjian from the Hanmin Police Station were reported to be concerned about Chen's wife. The officer said that Chen's wife could only say a few words about the purpose of applying for a financial card, such as "obey instructions," and failed to produce a physical passbook. They found that the account usually only had deduction records for water, electricity, gas and other livelihoods. It was extremely unusual to suddenly apply for a chip financial card without discount. They immediately suspended the application and quickly notified the police to the scene for assistance.

The police further clarified that Chen’s wife had recently discussed with her son how to transfer the property through buying and selling. Since the passbook was usually kept by her son who worked out of town, the son suggested that his mother apply for an ATM card at the post office in order to make it easier for his mother to withdraw living expenses in the future. To be cautious, the police called the old woman and her son on the spot, checked their identity and purpose of transaction one by one, and confirmed that it was a simple family financial plan, thus resolving a false alarm.
