Most fuel saving tips are ineffective or harmful to the car

On modern cars with electronic injection, driving in gear with the gas released is often more economical than neutral.

The most reliable way to reduce fuel consumption is to keep your car in good condition, monitor tire pressure, change consumables on time and drive smoothly.

MOSCOW, September 24 – RIA Novosti. Tips for drivers to save fuel are gaining popularity on the Internet, however, as Andrey Kuzin, head of the FIT SERVICE "Yaroslavskoye Shosse" car service center, told the Prime agency, most of them have minimal effect or even harm the car.

In neutral, the engine idles and wastes gas, and the driver loses engine braking.

Opening the windows is beneficial in the city at low speeds, but on the highway above 80-90 km/h it is often wiser to turn on the air conditioning. Over-inflated tires provide minimal savings, but reduce traction and accelerate tread wear. Under-inflated ones are also dangerous: they heat up, wear out at the edges and increase consumption. The pressure should be checked on cold wheels at least once a month.
