In September, the Tuvan authorities introduced a high alert regime in 11 regions of the republic due to bears coming out to people and declared a curfew in villages near the forest zone. Hunter duty groups were created to respond to threatening bears. The head of the region, Vladislav Khovalyg, instructed to organize round-the-clock duty of mobile teams.

“There are no pine nuts, and there are no berries, so the bears are hungry. That’s why they come out to people. Long ago, when I was little, this also happened. Shamans do rituals, but the hunger of the bears - how to satisfy them? They do rituals, rituals, but they are hungry. Hunger forces them to leave the taiga,” the supreme shaman of Russia told RIA Novosti.

A criminal case was previously opened in Tuva after the death of hockey coach Alexander Kuzmenko due to a bear attack. According to preliminary data, he arrived in Tuva on vacation and was attacked by a predator in the Todzha region. Kuzmenko was hospitalized with injuries, but he soon died.
