Typhoon Dujuan kills 12 in Japan, leaves four missing and widespread damage

TOKYO, September 26. /TASS/. The number of victims of Typhoon Dujuan, which lashed the central part of Japan’s Pacific coast on September 20, has risen to 12, according to public NHK.

Most of them became victims of landslides; some drowned in their submerged vehicles, which got trapped in low-lying areas. Four more people are still missing.

According to the latest data, more than 360 educational institutions, including public and private schools, in seven prefectures, including Tokyo, were hit by the typhoon. In Chiba Prefecture, which is adjacent to Tokyo, water stayed in many areas for several days; significant damage was caused to agricultural land, and about a thousand residential buildings were damaged. In the city of Narita, where the Tokyo International Airport of the same name is located, the flood destroyed a unique facility for breeding decorative multi·colored carp — more than 100,000 of them were flushed away from the ponds by the water currents.
