The US-Iran war affects refineries, and the average price of US diesel hits a record high

Average U.S. diesel prices climbed to a record high today, the American Automobile Association (AAA) said after damage to Persian Gulf refineries during the U.S.-Iran war disrupted oil supplies.

AFP reported that the American Automobile Association pointed out that the price of diesel, which is widely used in road transportation, agriculture and construction industries, reached $5.9015 per gallon, about 30 cents higher than the average price a week ago.

Fuel prices have risen sharply since the United States launched a joint Israeli attack on Iran six months ago, putting pressure on President Donald Trump ahead of November's U.S. midterm elections.

Trump has vowed to curb the rising cost of living, but the ongoing war with Iran has severely impacted oil tanker traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, causing all types of fuel prices to rise across the board.

A year ago, the average price of diesel was just $3.71 per gallon. Soaring prices have put pressure on farmers and truck drivers, who may be forced to pass the costs on to consumers.

Today is Labor Day in the United States, a holiday that millions of Americans usually take to drive, and the average price of regular gasoline today is $4.15 per gallon, up from $3.20 a year ago.
