Scientist assessed the impact of the Yellowstone eruption on global warming

After the eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano in Wyoming, the United States will experience a volcanic winter that could slow down global warming. American climatologist and vice-president of Climate Central Christina Dahl spoke about the unexpected consequence in an interview with RIA Novosti.

An eruption may occur in the near future due to an earthquake that was observed in July near the giant caldera. “The volcanic winter (after the Yellowstone eruption - editor’s note) can temporarily weaken human-induced warming,” the expert noted.

According to her, a similar situation occurred with the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, which became the second largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century and caused a cooling of 0.6 degrees.
