The construction of a national regional medical center is a major strategic plan for the country to promote the expansion of high-quality medical resources and balanced regional distribution. In the past, people in central Hunan suffered from complex and critical illnesses and often had to travel to Changsha, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, which was a tiring journey and heavy burden. In July 2023, the Loudi Hospital of the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University was included in the fifth batch of national regional medical center construction projects. The First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University will serve as the output hospital and Loudi Central Hospital as the supporting hospital. It has 1,200 planned beds and a total construction area of ​​260,000 square meters.

It is reported that the project abandons the "migratory bird support" model and adopts the "one hospital, two districts" operating model, deepening cooperation with the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University with "respiratory and tumor" as the two main lines. In the past two years, 63 new medical technologies have been implemented, and many first-in-province surgeries have been carried out. There are now 3 national and 15 provincial key clinical specialties. The respiratory department was selected as the first Hunan Provincial Medical Discipline Construction Class C project, and the regional patient transfer rate continues to decline.

Talent co-construction empowers the core of the project. Loudi Central Hospital has sent a total of more than 300 key personnel to Guangzhou for further study, and introduced 202 high-level talents; the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University has sent more than 1,000 experts, and more than 50 experts are currently stationed in Loudi to carry out clinical diagnosis and treatment, teaching and demonstration on a regular basis, and implement advanced medical concepts and management experience. Since the trial operation on August 28 this year, the "national team" experts from the team of Zhong Nanshan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, have been attending consultations, ward rounds, and operations at the Loudi Hospital of the First Hospital of Guangdong Medical University. On the electronic screen in the outpatient hall, the expert schedule is fully booked.

On the same day, Academician Zhong Nanshan and his team jointly pressed the start button, and a series of activities such as the Academic Forum on Public Hospital Reform and High-Quality Development of Medical and Health Care, the Hunan-Guangdong Respiratory Forum, and the Immersive Tubeless Surgery Master Class were held simultaneously.
