Lavrov: The SCO has become the core pillar of security in Eurasia

MOSCOW, September 17 - RIA Novosti. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has become the core pillar of security and sustainable development in Eurasia, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The greetings of the head of the foreign policy department were sent to the participants of the SCO Conference on best practices in subsoil use, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the organization.

“The SCO is dynamically and progressively strengthening on the basis of a creative agenda, a solid legal framework and a well-functioning system of sectoral cooperation mechanisms. The impressive combined potential of 27 member states, dialogue partners and observers establishes the SCO as the core support for the formation of a system of equal, indivisible security and sustainable development on the Eurasian continent, designed to become an integral element of a new multipolar world order,” Lavrov’s message says.

The minister emphasized that the key vector in achieving this goal is to increase economic cooperation, including in the field of subsoil use and effective state regulation of the industry.

Lavrov wished the forum participants fruitful discussions and agreement on the joint implementation of large-scale projects “in the interests of strengthening technological sovereignty and increasing the energy security of the SCO member states.”
