Iran conveys a seven-point plan to open the Strait of Hormuz to the United States through Qatari mediators

(CNN) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Monday that Iran had conveyed to the United States, through Qatari mediators, a seven-point plan regarding the conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz, noting that Tehran is waiting for the official American response to the plan, which he said may arrive on Tuesday.

The official Iranian News Agency (IRNA) quoted him as saying, in statements to Iranian journalists in New York, that he met again with one of the Qatari mediators, on Monday, and discussed with him ideas related to how to pave the way for the implementation of Iranian conditions.

Araqchi said: “Our plan, which was known as the seven-point plan, was conveyed to the Americans through a Qatari mediator. Despite what the US President (Donald Trump) said, I confirmed that we are awaiting the official American response through mediators.”

He added: "Today (Monday), we met again with one of the Qatari mediators, and we had some discussions. He talked about ideas and how to pave the way for achieving Iran's conditions and how to achieve them."

He continued: "They presented ideas, we discussed them, and they will present them again with the American side, and then the final American response will be conveyed to us after that, which I hope will take place on Tuesday."

Araqchi said that he would leave New York within hours heading to Tehran, and would not wait in the United States for the American response, according to IRNA.

He added: "These communications and messages exchanged between Qatari and Pakistani mediators have always existed, but now, in light of the plan presented by Iran, they have taken a more serious turn."

He continued: "If there is a response, the Qataris will inform us of it, and the decision will be taken in Tehran based on it, but I will leave New York within a few hours."

Regarding what was reported about Iran showing flexibility in its nuclear file, Araqchi categorically denied this. He said: "This is absolutely not true. I strongly deny this," according to IRNA.

He explained that the current talks are focused on the Strait of Hormuz, saying: “Our discussion is clear, and it is currently limited to the issue of the Strait of Hormuz, and opening the Strait is conditional on fulfilling a series of conditions that we announced to the other parties.”
