A fake video claiming the arrival of Turkish forces in Ma'rib, Yemen

Social media accounts circulated a video clip claiming to show scenes of the arrival of Turkish forces in the Ma’rib Governorate in the northeast of the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.

The video, which has received tens of thousands of views on the X website, shows vehicles, armored cars and tanks lined up on the side of a road.

The video was accompanied by a description saying: “Urgent now: Turkish forces arrive in Ma’rib.. Many Turkish-made vehicles, armored vehicles, and tanks were delivered to the Yemeni army in Ma’rib.”

CNN Arabic's investigation revealed that the video is old, was filmed in Syria, and is not related to the current military tensions in Yemen.

By splitting the video into stills and using a reverse search, we found a version posted on YouTube on April 16, 2026.

At the time, the Syrian "North Press Agency", whose watermark bears the video, wrote that the footage was of the moment "the 60th Division of the Syrian Army entered the Qasrak base after the coalition forces withdrew from it."

Syrian media quoted the Department of Media and Communication in the Ministry of Defense as saying, in a statement, that the army took over the Qasrak Air Base (northeastern Syria), after the withdrawal of the coalition forces, led by the United States.

The video's return to circulation coincided with the continuation of fighting between the forces of the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Iranian-backed Houthi group in Ma'rib Governorate, as part of the expansion of the scope of the conflict since last month.

In recent weeks, the Houthis have extended their control over large areas of the Red Sea coast, and launched missile and drone attacks targeting energy facilities in Saudi Arabia, and some of their attacks reached the capital, Riyadh, over the weekend.

Marib, which is rich in oil, has always been a target that the Houthis seek to control. The analyst specializing in Yemeni affairs, Muhammad Al-Basha, said that the field situation in Yemen is still changing.

Al-Basha explained to CNN last week that the cities of Taiz and Ma'rib are major strongholds, adding: "If the Houthis take them, that will be the end of the game; but their defenders are fighting a fierce battle."
