After being elected as the president of the clan in July 2018, Mr. A was indicted on charges of transferring 853 million won of funds stored in an account in the clan's name to a personal account and using it arbitrarily from October to November of the same year.

It was found that he used 800 million won of the stolen money for stock trading and lent some of it to acquaintances.

At the beginning of the investigation, Mr. A claimed, "I invested in stocks to increase the clan's assets and received delegation from the clan members," but after being handed over to trial, he admitted to all his crimes.

Previously, the first trial court sentenced him to 2 years and 6 months in prison, saying that the nature of the crime was very serious, citing the fact that a significant number of members of the sect were pleading for severe punishment and the fact that he had a history of multiple fines, including fraud.

However, the appellate court reduced the sentence in part by taking into account the fact that Mr. A made efforts to recover from the damage, such as remitting about 600 million won to the company's account from the first trial to the second trial.

However, taking into account the fact that Mr. A still manages an account in the name of the clan, making it difficult to view the remittance of some of the embezzled amount as an agreement, and the fact that an official non-punishment application at the clan level was not submitted, the elements of sentence reduction were judged to be limited.

The court stated the reason for the reduction of the sentence, saying, "In addition, the sentence was determined by comprehensively considering the fact that the defendant acknowledged and reflected on the crime, the defendant's poor health, and the fact that some sect members petitioned not to be punished."
